What if we were to consider the vast quantities of domestic, agricultural and industrial wastewater discharged into the environment everyday as a valuable resource rather than costly problem? This is the paradigm shift advocated in this year’s United Nations World Water Development Report, “Wastewater: the Untapped Resource ». It argues that once treated, wastewater could prove invaluable in meeting the growing demand for freshwater and other raw materials. Stefan Uhlenbrook, Coordinator of the World Water Assessment Programme, explains the main conlusions of the report. More information: www.unesco.org/water/wwap
Bahay Pangarap, Malacañang 15 October 2009 President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo met with the top executives of Zijin Mining Group, one of the largest gold producers in China, and the Nihao Mineral Resources International Inc. led by its Chief Operating Officer Jose Francisco Miranda. The president welcomed their interest to invest in the Philippines but gave the advice to first check on issues raised by the local communities, as the government espouses responsible mining. The group is looking for certain areas in Mindanao for its pilot project especially this time when the price of gold is at an all time high, according to Miranda.
Charles Barkley, chief executive of BlueBird Merchant Ventures says the company is a “different style of mining junior” which he believes will be attractive to small and medium size investors when it lists on the main board of the London Stock Exchange. The Philippine-focused firm has both assets and investments in mineral resources, and currently trades high grade copper concentrates. It has an agreement with ASX listed Red Mountain Mining and Red Mountain Mining Singapore, which gives it the option to acquire 50.1% of RMMS which is developing an advanced stage gold project. It all adds up to early cash flow and a plan to extend the mineral trading business and make further investments in attractive advanced projects where production is a realistic near term goal.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) orders the closure of 23 mining companies and the suspension of 5 others, based on the final result of its audit on mining operations. The Chamber of Mines of the Philippines finds the DENR's decision to be arbitrary and may have adverse economic impact. - The World Tonight, ANC, February 2, 2017 Subscribe to the ABS-CBN News channel! - http://bit.ly/TheABSCBNNews Visit our website at http://news.abs-cbn.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/abscbnNEWS Twitter: https://twitter.com/abscbnnews
